Beyond the reopened Scarab Wall, a new war begins against an army that was imprisoned rather than defeated.
Origins & history
During the War of the Shifting Sands, night elves and dragons fought the qiraji and their silithid armies. Unable to end the threat outright, they sealed the enemy behind the Scarab Wall. The ruins of Ahn’Qiraj remained a battlefield held in suspension.
Over the following centuries, the qiraji rebuilt their forces behind the barrier. Renewed silithid activity and the effort to restore the Scepter of the Shifting Sands lead to the gates reopening. The combined war effort brings Alliance and Horde into a campaign against the same enemy.
Why we enter
Adventurers enter the ruined outer city to break the massed army before it can overwhelm Silithus. The Cenarion Circle supports the assault. This expedition targets the fortress’s exposed military force, while the larger Temple raid reaches the rulers and the Old God deeper within.
The story inside
Kurinnaxx guards the initial approach. General Rajaxx commands successive waves of qiraji troops, with General Andorov and his Kaldorei Elite providing help during that battle. The encounter makes the raid feel like an action within a larger war rather than a sequence of isolated duels.
Moam, Buru the Gorger and Ayamiss the Hunter occupy other parts of the ruins. Ossirian the Unscarred stands as the final great guardian, empowered until the attackers use the crystals surrounding his battlefield against him. Each victory weakens a different part of the outer defenses.
Aftermath & legacy
The ruins’ fall supports the broader assault on Ahn’Qiraj, but it does not defeat C’Thun. That confrontation takes place in the separate Temple raid.
