The Scourge turns the quilboar’s ancestral burial grounds into an army against the living.
Origins & history
Razorfen Downs shares the immense thorn growths and sacred history of the neighboring Kraul. Its burial grounds hold generations of quilboar dead. Those graves make it an ideal target for the Scourge, which can transform a people’s ancestors into the means of their conquest.
The lich Amnennar the Coldbringer establishes control over the Downs and raises an undead force. The threat is no longer simply a local ruler bargaining with outsiders: a Scourge commander now holds a foothold from which corruption can spread across the Barrens.
Why we enter
Adventurers enter to destroy Amnennar and contain the undead occupation. The captive Belnistrasz offers another task within the complex: a ritual intended to cleanse its corruption. Protecting him is an optional branch of the expedition, but it gives the assault a restorative purpose beyond killing the lich.
The story inside
Tuten’kash is drawn into battle by the gong, while Mordresh Fire Eye stands among the gathered dead. Glutton embodies the grotesque appetite of the Scourge’s constructs. During Belnistrasz’s cleansing ritual, the party must survive repeated attacks and confront Plaguemaw the Rotting.
The ascent through the thorn labyrinth leads to Amnennar. His mastery of death and frost connects this apparently remote Kalimdor battlefield to the larger Scourge. Defeating him attacks the command structure maintaining the occupation.
Aftermath & legacy
The lich’s defeat checks this attempt to expand the Scourge in Kalimdor. It does not erase the damage done to the quilboar or settle their conflicts with surrounding settlements.
