Origins & history

Onyxia established her lair beneath the marshes of Dustwallow. Its lava-lined passages and guarded egg chambers shelter the black dragon broodmother and her offspring. She is Deathwing’s daughter and Nefarian’s sister, but her preferred route to power runs through mortal politics rather than the experiments of Blackrock Mountain.

In Stormwind she takes the identity of Lady Katrana Prestor. From the royal court she deepens divisions, obstructs effective leadership and helps exploit the dispute between the Stonemasons and the nobles. Her lair and her disguise are two halves of one strategy: a hidden draconic power protected by influence inside the kingdom it undermines.

Why we enter

The Alliance investigation culminates in Marshal Windsor exposing her identity in Stormwind. Horde adventurers reach the confrontation through a separate chain involving the black dragonflight and access to the lair. These are faction-specific game paths into the same Classic raid, not evidence of two separate canonical deaths.

The story inside

The passage into the brood chamber is guarded by powerful dragonkin. Inside, the attackers face Onyxia herself in an encounter shaped by her territory: fire, flight and eggs that release waves of whelps. The nest makes clear that removing her from the court is only part of the task; her military strength remains intact until she is confronted at home.

Aftermath & legacy

Onyxia’s death removes a hidden enemy from the kingdom’s leadership, but her family’s threat continues.
