Eastern Plaguelands

Kel’Thuzad’s necropolis arrives over the Plaguelands, bringing the original Classic campaign to its final Scourge stronghold.

Origins & history

Naxxramas began as a nerubian structure before the Scourge transformed it into a floating fortress. It became the seat of Kel’Thuzad, the lich whose Cult of the Damned helped spread the plague through Lordaeron. Its arrival over the Eastern Plaguelands places a mobile war machine above an already devastated region.

The Classic expedition is the first assault on this necropolis.

Why we enter

The Argent Dawn prepares a way through the fortress’s wards and calls on adventurers to prevent another Scourge offensive. Assaulting Naxxramas means dismantling an organization built to manufacture soldiers, spread disease and train commanders. Its four quarters give that organization a physical form.

The phylactery and the priest

The first defeat of Kel’Thuzad left a dangerous task unfinished. His phylactery survived, and adventurers delivered it to Father Inigo Montoy at Light’s Hope Chapel. The priest did not destroy it. He returned it to the Lich King, allowing the master of Naxxramas to regain a body.

The story inside

Anub’Rekhan, Faerlina and Maexxna occupy the Arachnid Quarter. Noth, Heigan and Loatheb defend the Plague Quarter, while Patchwerk, Grobbulus, Gluth and Thaddius reveal the horrors of the Construct Quarter.

The Military Quarter leads through Instructor Razuvious and Gothik to the Four Horsemen. In Classic they are Highlord Alexandros Mograine, Thane Korth’azz, Lady Blaumeux and Sir Zeliek. Beyond all four wings, Sapphiron guards the chamber of Kel’Thuzad.

Aftermath & legacy

The lich is defeated, but the recovery of his phylactery does not result in the secure destruction of his soul. The item is handed to Father Inigo Montoy, allowing Kel’Thuzad’s return to remain possible.
