The Captain Who Keeps the Light

Along Westfall’s wreck-strewn coast, Captain Grayson still worries about ships approaching the rocks. His own life ended when the lighthouse was dark. He says Old Murk-Eye had frightened the keeper’s family away; after they returned and rekindled it, a second attack killed them.

Grayson cannot undo what he witnessed. He asks for oil from the harvest machines to keep the light burning and for the shore to be cleared of murlocs, so sailors who survive a wreck have a chance on the beach. He also seeks the death of Old Murk-Eye, whom he holds responsible for the attacks.

The lighthouse story gives Westfall a danger facing outward toward the Great Sea as well as inward toward its fields. Even after death, its watcher is concerned with the next crew that might approach the coast.
