A drowned sanctuary of Elune becomes a place of sacrifice to the powers beneath the world.
Origins & history
Blackfathom Deeps was once a night elven temple dedicated to Elune on what became Ashenvale’s coast. The Great Sundering submerged it, leaving broken halls connected to caves and flooded passages. Naga, satyrs and aquatic creatures later occupied the ruins.
The Twilight’s Hammer found another reason to descend: the presence of Aku’mai, a monstrous hydra associated with the Old Gods. The cult transformed the ancient sanctuary into a center of worship and sacrifice to a power utterly opposed to its original purpose.
Why we enter
Adventurers investigate the cult and the dangers spreading along the Zoram Strand. The presence of Argent Guard Thaelrid within the ruins gives the expedition a direct witness to the threat. Reaching the inner shrine means stopping both the cult’s leadership and the creature it protects.
The story inside
Ghamoo-ra occupies an early chamber, while Lady Sarevess and Gelihast reveal the different creatures that have claimed the drowned temple. Lorgus Jett, Baron Aquanis and Old Serra’kis are additional encounters within the complex.
Twilight Lord Kelris presides over the inner ritual area. After overcoming his followers and the defenses surrounding the shrine, the adventurers reach Aku’mai. The hydra makes the cult’s devotion tangible: the sacrifices are sustaining a living danger, not merely honoring a forgotten legend.
Aftermath & legacy
Defeating Aku’mai breaks the cult’s immediate occupation, but the Twilight’s Hammer appears again across Azeroth.
